"One of my most favourite feel-good things to do is a ballet class, where you stand tall, move mindfully with grace absorbed in the feeling and rhythm of the music.  It is rewarding to pass this love for dance onto children and see the enjoyment on their faces as they progress."

Born and bred in Tauranga, I started ballet at 5, training in RAD up to Advanced 2 level.  I also trained in Modern Jazz and Contemporary.  I competed in many national competitions and loved performing in local dance productions and musicals, adding singing and tap dancing to the repertoire.  I then went down the academic path, lived in Japan as an exchange student, learning to speak Japanese fluently.  From there onto Waikato University obtaining a First Class Honours degree in Marketing and International Management, and Japanese.  During my University years, I danced and choreographed with the Unity Dance Collective and in my last year at University I danced in Baycourts production Giselle in Tauranga which Lisa-Maree Cullum guest starred in.  Whilst working in logistics in Auckland and London I kept up with dance classes never letting go of that passion to dance.  I met Tom in London, brought him back to NZ, and we married living in Auckland.  Whilst working in marketing, I began Irish Dancing lessons then performed in Firedance at Aotea Centre.  I then joined the City Dance Company, a group of dancers all with the same desire to dance.  We choreographed and produced local dance shows.  As the children came along we moved to Papamoa to be close to family.  I then dived at the opportunity to teach young children dance with Dance Education Centre (DEC) by starting with the Thames branch and then the Mount Maunganui branch (2009) where I have taught ballet ever since.  During this time I studied and passed the BBO Pre Associate exam for teaching with Distinction.  All my children have attended dance classes at DEC.  My daughter Caitlin loves ballet and urban and has been dancing successfully in competitions since the age of 5. I love to see her enjoying dance and performance.
