Philippa (Pip) Artus

At a young age, I began ballet with Dance Education Centre, which initiated my love for dancing and the stage. I studied and completed my exams in BBO Ballet, Jazz, Urban, Tap, and Musical Theatre, as well as competing in Ballet and Jazz Competitions within New Zealand.  Having both Prue and Debbie Gooch as my tutors. Throughout college, I studied Contemporary Dance and completed NCEA levels of Dance with Excellence in both performance and choreography.  During this time I also found my love for singing and musical theatre, and performed in numerous productions with Tauranga Musical Theatre and Tauranga Girls College.  These shows included Grease, Miss Saigon, Oklahoma, The King and I, and the highlight was performing the role of Millie in ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie.’ During college, I also took on leadership roles such as director for our Winning Stage Challenge team in 2015 and taking charge of the Tauranga Girls College Arts department as Arts Director.

Once leaving college, I found a great fascination with fashion design and spent two years studying in Wellington & Auckland, before moving back to Tauranga and working as the manager, women's buyer, & marketing coordinator for a surf store in Mount Maunganui where I have been for two years.  I am looking forward to growing and developing the DEC Mount studio and being on the staff in Tauranga. It excites me coming back to the Dance Education Centre and seeing bright young children with big dreams and eager feet as I was in those spots not too long ago.  Dance has been a true passion for me and to be able to share my knowledge with others is a spectacular honour.
