"My daughter is a student at the Dance Education Centre and loves attending the broad range of dance styles and classes that they have on offer.  The teachers are extremely talented and energetic and have a wealth of knowledge and experience behind them – they all have a great rapport with the students and create a fun, supportive environment while ensuring the students develop strong technical skills and reach the best of their ability.  The end of year production is a real highlight - the high standard of performance and professionalism year on year never ceases to amaze me, not to mention the sheer delight and energy that seems to radiate from every child on the stage!

Since attending DEC, I’ve watched my daughter’s confidence and passion for dance grow as well as some great friendships form with other dance students.

DEC is an inspiring, professional dance studio that I would not hesitate to recommend."

"Hayley Wain is an enthusiastic teacher to both of my girls who have been dancing at DEC for the last 2-3 years. Hayley's teaching is always age appropriate, she is always enthusiastic, positive and you can tell how much she loves to teach and dance herself.

Our girls always look forward to going to ballet every week and they are disappointed if they are sick or not able to attend.

Thanks Hayley for being such a great teacher to our girls."

“DEC guided me to find my true passion in life, Contemporary dance. Arriving to Tauranga at the beginning of college dance was a hobby of mine, but the Gooch’s deepened my hobby into a love and passion. They gave me the foundations and skills to such a high standard that now its allowed me to reach my next set of goals. It was always such a nurturing environment that 100% encouraged you to be yourself and express your own artistic flare. DEC unlocked a way for me to express myself and now I am lucky enough to be second year at Unitec and be so amerced in the contemporary art of New Zealand. DEC became my second home and I will always treasure the time and wisdom I received there.”

"My time dancing at the DEC was some of the best years of my life and I absolutely loved being part of the DEC family. I started at aged 5 and trained in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Musical Theatre until I left for full time dance training at the age of 17. I not only found my love and passion for dance here but made amazing friends and gained lifelong skills.

The teaching and training I received at the DEC was superb and has allowed me to follow a career in dance. I loved taking part in competitions and performing in the annual shows, we all had so much fun together on stage and off. I was always inspired and encouraged to work hard to achieve my goals and I know that I would not be where I am today without Prue and Debbie Gooch.

I highly recommend the DEC for outstanding dance training, performing, making friends and having heaps of fun!"

"DEC was like my second home from 1993 to 2006 (13 years) and I would say some of my most cherished memories of my childhood/teenage years involve my experiences within in those studios. Prue Gooch ignited my passion for theatre from a very young age and always encouraged my keen interest in stagecraft and a love for all things dance both on and off the stage. Under the disciplined guidance of Prue and Debbie I learnt Ballet, Tap, and Jazz styles through class, exam, and competition work, but as I got older was also given the opportunity to explore my skills as a teacher, and eventually a choreographer. The end of year productions were always a highlight and I learnt so much about every aspect of the theatre from being involved in these year after year.

In 2007 I moved to Melbourne Australia to study Full-time Performing arts at DanceWorld Studios and have been working professionally here ever since - starting as a performer in Musicals touring Australia and Asia, before moving into Teaching at elite / full-time / tertiary Performing arts institutions, and as a Choreographer for Musical Theatre, TV, Cabaret, and dance shows.

DEC's most valuable lesson in my opinion is the art of storytelling - and this has always informed my teaching and choreographic processes in my career to date.

"When my oldest girl turned 3 years, I felt she needed some interaction with music & dance and came across the DEC Minimovers. Not knowing anything about dance or ballet at all. Thanks to Hayley, my girl is now in the classical 2 class and my other little girl has joined the Minimovers too. I love how dedicated, passionate & patient Hayley teaches but also strict and firm, which has been very beneficial for my girls development. The girls look forward every week to go to ballet class and just love to perform at the annual show at the end of the year. We hope to continue dancing with DEC and Hayley as our teacher for many more years to  come."
